Further is happy to welcome Kate Barnes as Account Strategist. We’ve enjoyed throwing Kate in at the deep end and she’s already swimming like a champ, but see what Kate has to say for herself…

Name: Kate Barnes

Place of origin: Melbourne, Australia

Role at Further: Account Strategist

Area of specialism: Understanding people. Whether it’s at work -understanding clients’ needs or at home – reading books on neuro-plasticity. I love learning about people and what makes us tick.

Career: I started my career as a publicist in 2008 at one of Australia’s most renowned arts and entertainment PR agencies, specialising in film, theatre and music.

For three years I honed my writing and people management skills and was lucky enough to work on some of Australia’s largest film and music festivals.

My love of travel and eagerness to expand my world view sent me travelling for six months, settling in London in 2011. This step saw me move into advertising. Finding a home at JWT London gave me a solid foundation in marketing communications and sparked my excitement in brand planning.

On returning to Australia in 2013, I built on this  joining Clemenger BBDO in the client service department. Working on some of Australia’s most iconic brands including beer brands – Victoria Bitter and Carlton Draught – has given me a great breadth of experience from running large scale brand campaigns, to social media management and digital marketing strategy.

Proudest moment: Receiving a Government award for my Renaissance History exam in my final year at school (Australian A level equivalent).

Interests: travelling, music festivals, yoga and psychology.

Next on the bucket list… I have never seen a British pantomime!

Best advice ever: “Be so good they can’t ignore you” – Steve Martin. It always reminds me that if you don’t back yourself no one else will.
