7 things Further has learnt in 2017
We’re coming to the end of another busy year at Further. A great deal has changed for us during 2017 from our office relocation to St. Georges Works to the 15 new staff members we’ve welcomed to the team – including our first ever intern!
Norwich also became host to its first ever Marketing Meetup, with our Account Strategist participating as a guest speaker to remind fellow marketers: “You are not your customer.” With multiple award nominations, silver at the Content Marketing Awards and a win at The Drum Content Awards, it’s safe to say that 2017 will be one to remember!
Here’s what some of the team feel they’ve learnt this year at Further:
Alex Cole – Digital Designer
Since the addition of Alex’s design skills to the team, our internal ‘Think Tank Thursday’ presentations have become ever-more aesthetically appealing. Through working on these presentations he’s gained valuable insights into his colleagues’ specialisms. He said: “The sharing of knowledge has not only benefited my career on an individual level, but it also helps ensure that the projects we deliver to clients are of the utmost quality.”
Helen Brooks- Production Manager
“That it’s possible to work in a place without office politics” and she’d happily go to the pub with anyone here at Further, something which undeniably shouldn’t be so unique. Helen goes on to say that the environment of the office helps work be that much more enjoyable.
Catherine Bunting – Marketing Manager
“In the last 3 months I’ve learnt the following:
1. Keep it simple – answer four questions: What? Where to? How? How much?
2. Be inquisitive and ask questions. You’ll save yourself a lot of time and energy in the long run.
3. Norwich is a thriving community. Join in and collaborate.”
Carly Stanforth – Office Manager
“I’ve learnt that it’s possible to love your job.” When asked to expand on this, it clearly comes down to the level of trust and responsibility delegated to Carly within her role. She also appreciates having an open, honest environment to work in, stating that “it’s a joy to come to work.”

Darren Barr – Head of Paid Digital
“This year has seen significant growth at Further and I’ve been really impressed by the passionate and skilled individuals we’ve attracted. What’s more, I’ve enjoyed watching them progress through colleagues’ training programmes, aimed at developing motivated novices into experts within their field.”
Phoebe Conner – Digital Marketing Intern
Despite only joining us in October, Phoebe has probably learnt the most this year. Not only has she got to grips with the various aspects of digital marketing, but since starting at Further she says she’s learnt that “a nurturing environment gets the best results for both parties.”
Adam Read – Data Analyst
“I believe that moving data analysis into the strategy team this year has helped me become more focused on what I want to achieve whilst working at Further. Exploring the existing processes in place has helped me to identify opportunities and define the tasks needed from the insight team, whilst putting into place structured outputs for those tasks.”
Adam also adds a valuable lesson learnt – that none of this could have been achieved without coffee!
