"Do not underestimate the power of internal linking, it can increase the relevance of your pages and even improve usability!"

Internal linking would definitely make it in my "top 3 common mistakes" on client sites. It's not uncommon to see "read more" or "click here" links, which don't benefit search engines or users.

Having related anchor text on internal links, does 2 things:

1) Helps "tag" the linked to page for search engines with that keyphrase, giving it a higher chance of ranking.

2) Makes it easier for users to scan read where links are going to send them.

Assuming are links are in bold, which is easier to read?

Example One:

"Our company is proud to annouce the release of our new red widget. Click here to read more"

or Example Two:

"Our company is proud to annouce the release of our new red widget"

Makes sense, doesn't it?
